Taiwanese Comic Artists Yashin and Yu-Tung Yeh Featured at New York’s MoCCA Arts Festival

Taiwanese comic artists Yashin and Yu-Tung Yeh have been invited to participate in the MoCCA Arts Festival, one of the most prominent independent comics events in the United States. Taking place in New York on March 28–29, 2026, the festival brings together more than 500 comic artists, illustrators, and publishers from around the world and attracts thousands of comics enthusiasts each year.

Presented annually by the Museum of Comic and Cartoon Art (MoCCA), the MoCCA Arts Festival has become a key platform for independent comics and graphic storytelling on the U.S. East Coast. Since 2017, the Taipei Cultural Center in New York, an overseas office of Taiwan’s Ministry of Culture, has supported Taiwanese artists’ participation in the festival, helping introduce Taiwan’s vibrant comics scene to international audiences.

At this year’s festival, Yashin and Yu-Tung Yeh will present their works at the “Taiwan Comics” booth, showcasing the diversity, creativity, and distinctive visual language of Taiwan’s contemporary comics.

Yashin is a visual storyteller whose practice spans illustration, comics, and moving image, with a particular focus on the book as both a physical and conceptual medium. By establishing narrative structures through format, binding, and layout, she transforms books into immersive objects and reimagines how images are experienced and read.

Her work explores how page-turning, panel logic, and material design shape perceptions of time, space, and attention, positioning reading as an embodied act. Yashin’s practice has received significant international recognition through major awards, exhibitions, and artist residencies across Asia, Europe, and the United States. At MoCCA, she will present her graphic novel Mirror Mirror in My Hand, along with zines, original drawings, and related works.

Yu-Tung Yeh is a comic artist and contemporary ink painter known for his distinctive cat-themed narratives. His work merges the thousand-year tradition of East Asian ink painting with the narrative aesthetics of Japanese manga, creating stories that feel both timeless and strikingly contemporary.

Through speculative fiction, dark humor, and emotional introspection, Yeh explores themes of aging, regret, technology, and what it means to remain human in a rapidly changing world. His work has been recognized by major international manga awards and exhibited widely across Asia and Europe. At the festival, he will present the English edition of his comic A.I. Meets Ghost, alongside works from The Cat Swordsman series and original illustrations.

Both artists have also been invited to participate in official MoCCA programming. Yashin will join the live comics performance “MoCCA Presents: R. Sikoryak’s Carousel,” where artists present and perform their comics through readings accompanied by projected visuals. Yu-Tung Yeh will take part in the panel discussion “Modern Horror,” which explores how contemporary comics creators use horror narratives to reflect social anxieties and the complexities of human psychology.

The participation of these two artists highlights the diversity and innovation of Taiwan’s contemporary comics scene. Through the international platform of the MoCCA Arts Festival, they look forward to connecting with readers, illustrators, and publishers from around the world while further expanding global awareness of Taiwanese comics.
