Preparatory Office of NTMC opens exhibition highlighting Taiwan’s baseball comics

In anticipation of the 2026 World Baseball Classic (WBC) tournament, the Preparatory Office of National Taiwan Museum of Comics (NTMC) opened the exhibition “Runners on Base: Powerful Hits from Taiwan’s Baseball Comics” on Jan. 29 in Taichung City.

Minister of Culture Li Yuan, Political Deputy Minister of Sports Huang Chi-huang (黃啟煌), legislator Ho Hsin-chun (何欣純), and other distinguished guests attended the opening ceremony.

Minister Li noted that since the establishment of the Ministry of Sports (MOS) last year, it has formed a close partnership with the Ministry of Culture (MOC) across four key areas: cash incentives, sports comics, exhibitions, and the development of culture-and-sports parks.

He also announced that, as the WBC draws near, the “Runners on Base exhibition” will expand with additional displays at the Taipei Dome from Mar. 1 to July 26, further showcasing Taiwan’s baseball comics.

During the opening ceremony, an open call for sports comics was launched. Submissions are being accepted through Apr. 30, with total prize money of NT$10 million.

The Preparatory Office of NTMC stated that baseball is a shared cultural language in Taiwan, with baseball comics serving as an ideal medium for its representation. The exhibition reviews the development of Taiwan’s baseball comics since the 1960s, reflecting the artists’ imagination and collective memory of the country’s “national sport.”

The exhibition is on view through Aug. 30. For more information, visit NTMC’s official website.
