MOC honors winners of inaugural Youth Comic Awards

Hosted by the Ministry of Culture (MOC), the inaugural Youth Comic Awards ceremony was held on Jan. 20 at the Songshan Cultural and Creative Park in Taipei, celebrating the creativity and talent of Taiwan’s emerging comic artists. The competition attracted more than 250 submissions, from which 47 awards were selected, with total prize money reaching NT$1.23 million.

In the group category, the Gold Prize was awarded to “About Love, Four Leaf Clover” by Taoyuan Municipal Yang Ming Senior High School (桃園市立陽明高中), while the individual Gold Prize went to Chiang I-cheng (江翊丞) for his work “Microphone (傳聲筒).”

Minister of Culture Li Yuan noted that since 2018, the Taiwan’s comics industry has received government support through a range of cultural policies. These initiatives include grants for creative projects, funding for the Golden Comic Awards (GCA), and budget allocations for the establishment of the National Taiwan Museum of Comics.

The MOC also stated that it will continue to support emerging comic artists through a series of workshops and access to relevant policy resources.

The ceremony was attended by Minister Li Yuan, past GCA winners, and representatives from across the comic industry. Renowned figures in the field, including Ao Yu-hsiang (敖幼祥), Chang Sheng (常勝), Ruan Guang-min (阮光民)Li Lung-chieh (李隆杰), Wei Chong-cheng (韋宗成), Hsieh Tung-lin (謝東霖), Ri Shia Zao (日下棗), Daily Greens (每日青菜), Langchi (狼七), Tseng Chien-hua (曾建華), Chen Te-li (陳德立), and Szumi Huang (黃思蜜), were invited to serve as award presenters.
